Knowing God Through His Name: Jehovah Rapha
Knowing God Through His Name: Jehovah Rapha
Exodus 15:22-26
Theme: For the believer to explore Jehovah Rapha and live life in light of the healing power that God provides in the bitterness of our journey.
Jehovah Rapha: The God Who Heals
The name Jehovah Rapha comes from two Hebrew words. Yahweh (often translated as “LORD” in all capital letters in your Bible) is God’s personal name, signifying His eternal, unchanging nature. Rapha means “to heal,” “to restore,” or “to make whole.”
Principle 1: We All Come to Marah
- Marah means “bitterness”
- Bitterness comes uninvited
Principle 2: Build Your Faith on God’s Character, Not His Miracles
Note: As the Israelites saw God’s miracles, They built their faith on what God did rather than who He is. When we anchor our faith in God’s unchanging character—His love, goodness, and faithfulness—we can trust Him even when miracles don’t come.
Principle 3: For Every Marah, There Is a Jehovah Rapha
No matter the bitterness you face, Jehovah Rapha is your Healer. The word Rapha applies to:
- Physical Healing: Psalm 103:3
- Emotional Healing: Psalm 147:3
- Spiritual Healing: In Isaiah 6:10
Conclusion: Come to Jehovah Rapha
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for being Jehovah Rapha, our Healer. For those hurting tonight, fill their pain with Your presence. Heal broken bodies, hearts, and spirits. Draw us to Your cross, where bitterness becomes sweet. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
