Galatians 5:22-23

Theme: Fruitfulness is an often-used biblical metaphor for spiritual usefulness

Statement of Truth:
Fruit-bearing describes conduct that is for the glory of God and the good of others

Questions:  Do you want to be more like Jesus?”

          How does that Happen?

Answer: Galatians 5:22-23 says it happens by the Fruit of the Holy Spirit

I. The Stark Contrast 

Note:  Your life either reflects what the flesh produces or what the spirit produces

            A. Works of the Flesh v 19-21

            B. Fruit of the Spirit v 22-23

    Statement of Truth:

    The Holy Spirit does not just want to reside in your life, he wants to preside over your life.

II. The Spiritual Cluster

        The Meaning of the Fruit:

        • The Fruit of the Spirit is about character

        • It is the fruit of the spirit, not the fruits of the spirit.

Goal:   It is the will of God to have the Spirit of God, use the Word of God to make the children of God look like the Son of God

III.  The Supernatural Cultivation

QUESTION:  How does this fruit get cultivated in us?

  • Prayer makes you grow up

  • Scripture makes you grow up

  • Service will make you grow up

  • Fellowship will make you grow up

  • Trouble will make you grow up

Word or Warning:
You are only as mature as your most immature fruit
